Motivation

⚡ Students increasingly use AI tools like ChatGPT in their coursework

🧩 Educators struggle to assess student learning when AI is involved

📊 No standardized way to track and understand student AI interactions in project work

🔍 Need for transparency in how AI tools are being used to support learning

“ How Might We assist students to communicate their AI usage with different stakeholders, to demonstrate their novel dimensions of capabilities? ”

Our Approach

🏫 We conducted workshops with 18 college students, encouraging them to speculate an alternative world 🌍 where they could freely employ AI in PBL while needing to report this process to assess their skills and contributions.

  • Understand how students envision using AI in their project work

  • Explore ways to track and report AI usage meaningfully

  • Identify key metrics and visualization needs for different stakeholders

  1. AI-involved Project Journey Speculation

  • Brainstormed data points to track

  • Sketched visualization concepts

  • Created report prototypes

  • Group critique and iteration

Understand how students envision using AI in their project work

  • Explore ways to track and report AI usage meaningfully

  • Identify key metrics and visualization needs for different stakeholders

  1. Imagine the Ideal Student

  • Explored traits of successful students in AI-enhanced learning

  • Discussion of how assessment needs might evolve

  • Identified key skills and competencies to evaluate

  • Considered different stakeholder perspectives
